Ura Yakchoe Festival Tour

Ura Village

Overview

Ura Yakchoe Festival has a unique story. An old woman who was sitting outside her house was visited by a Lama asking for drinking water. It is believed that the Lama vanished as she went in to get water leaving behind a sack containing a Statue. And this statue is displayed during the festival. The Festival is held in Ura one of the most beautiful villages in Bhutan. There are about 40 clustered houses alongside cobblestone streets with Ura Lhakhang at the top that give the village a medieval atmosphere. Women wear a sheepskin shawl during colder months.
