It was a boundless love for adventure and wild places that led Tsheten, after graduation, to embark on a career in tourism. Over the course of an exciting career as a tour leader, Tsheten traveled to every nook and corner of the country. During this time, he earned a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies in Tourism Management in Austria. Upon his return, he steadily climbed the managerial ladder, becoming well versed in the intricacies of operations and policies within the travel industry. After more than a decade of experience, Tsheten was driven to share his passion and travel experiences with others in a more authentic and meaningful way. Thus, Bhutan Travel Guru was born. Bhutan Travel Guru is his life’s work, and he takes a personal interest in closely monitoring each and every trip himself.
Holding a Bachelor of Commerce with a specialization in Marketing from India, Tshering worked at the five-star Zhiwaling Hotel before joining Bhutan Travel Guru. He oversees logistics, reservations, and the processing of travel documents. Tshering pays close attention to every small detail, knowing that even the smallest things can make a big difference to a guest’s experience. For him, true satisfaction comes from seeing clients enjoy their trip in Bhutan.
Ugyen is the Accounts Manager at Bhutan Travel Guru. She comes from a marketing background with seven years of experience prior to joining the company. As Accounts Manager, her responsibilities include clearing bills, preparing pro-forma invoices, filing government taxes, and submitting financial reports and analyses. Born and raised in Trashigang in eastern Bhutan, she now resides in Thimphu due to her work.
Sonam provides invaluable support to our Operations Department. She is friendly and soft-spoken by nature, qualities that give her an edge in securing swift reservation confirmations. Sonam initially joined us as a temporary staff member, but she soon developed a strong passion for her work and decided to stay on. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the Royal University of Bhutan.
Yeshi Wangdi is a native of Trashigang. He completed his early education in his hometown and later pursued his degree at St. Joseph’s College in India. Driven by a passion for travel, Yeshi became a guide after graduation. Although he was initially trained as a cultural and trekking guide, he later specialized as a birding guide. His love for birding was sparked during one of his trips when he met a birding enthusiast, and he has been involved in bird-related work ever since. Today, he is well known in birding circles for his excellent birding guiding skills.
Dorji Pelzang—fondly nicknamed “Big Man” because of his stature—is from Khaling and has been with the company since 2008. He specializes in cultural tours and high-altitude trekking and is known as a friendly, approachable, and highly competent guide. Clients particularly enjoy his sense of humor and his entertaining skills in playing dice in a traditional local game called Paralla.
Born and raised in a riverside village in eastern Bhutan, Rinchen has a deep connection to river adventures. He is a professional white-water rafter and river guide and regularly conducts training in rafting and kayaking. He also possesses in-depth knowledge of local culture, history, and places. Bring up almost any topic, and he can speak about it at length. Guests often describe him as a friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging guide.
Born in the isolated nomadic village of Sakteng in northeastern Bhutan, bordering Tibet and Tawang in India, Sonam has trekking in his blood. He was trained and certified by the Tourism Council of Bhutan in 2007 and has been leading trekking groups ever since. There are very few treks in Bhutan that he has not conquered. In 2011, he made history by leading a team of Indian women, headed by Ms. Bachendri Pal—the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest—on the epic 24-day Snowman Trek. When not on the trail, Sonam can often be seen enjoying Bhutan’s traditional archery game.
Mr. Rinzin Tsheten is one of our senior-most tour guides with many years of experience guiding travelers across Bhutan. He is highly knowledgeable in Buddhism and Bhutanese culture, and he is also well informed about current affairs. Friendly, patient, and approachable by nature, Mr. Rinzin has a warm guiding style that makes guests feel comfortable throughout the journey. He communicates very well in English and is able to explain complex cultural and spiritual topics in a clear and engaging manner.
Yonten has strong potential as a tour leader. He has a pleasant temperament and gets along well with people from all backgrounds. These qualities, combined with his sound knowledge of Bhutan, make him an efficient guide. If needed, he can even entertain you with English songs during the tour. His friends affectionately call him ‘Tsampa’ because of his long hair.
