It was boundless love for adventure and wild places that led Tsheten after graduation to embark his career in tourism. Over the course of an exciting career as tour leader, Tsheten traveled to every nook and corners of the country. In the interim, he earned a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies in Tourism Management in Austria. Upon return, he climbed the managerial ladder and this made him well versed on the intricacies of works and policies in the travel industry. After having amassed more than a decade of experience, Tsheten was driven to share with others his passion and travel experiences in a more authentic and meaningful manner. And thus, Bhutan Travel Guru was born. Bhutan Travel Guru is his life work, and he takes interest to closely monitor each and every trip by himself.
Holding a Bachelor of Commerce with specialization in marketing from India, Tshewang has worked with the 5 star Zhiwaling Hotel before joining Bhutan Travel Guru. Tshewang oversees logistics, reservations and the process of travel papers. He takes care of every small detail because he knows how a little thing can make a big difference to human psychology. For Tshewang, the satisfaction comes from seeing clients enjoying their trip in Bhutan.
Ugyen is the accounts manager of Bhutan Travel Guru. She has come from a marketing background with 7 years experience before joining us. As an accounts manager her work entails clearing of bills, preparation of pro-forma invoice, filling government taxes and submission of financial reports and analysis. Born and raised in Trashigang, eastern Bhutan, she now stays in Thimphu due to her work.
Pema gives invaluable assistance to our Operations Department. Assimilating to her job, she is truly friendly and soft-spoken, a trait which gives an edge over other competitors in securing swift confirmation for the reservations. Pema was initially employed as a temporary staff member but she fell in love with her work and decided to stay on. She has a bachelor degree in commerce from Royal University of Bhutan.
Yeshi Wangdi is a native of Tashigang. He studied his early education in his hometown and went to St. Joseph’s College in India for a degree. With a passion for travel, Yeshi became a guide after graduation. Although initially trained as a cultural and trekking guide, he became a birding guide. It was lucky that on one of his trips he met a birding enthusiast and this ignited on him the love for birding. He has been involved in bird related works ever since. He is now well known in birding circles for his great birding guiding skills.
Dawa Gyeltshen – nicknamed ‘big man’ – because of his size is from Thimphu and has been with the company since 2008. He is a specialist in cultural and high altitude trekking and is a most friendly, approachable and competent guide. Clients enjoy his sense of humour and his entertaining skills at playing dice in a local game called “Paralla”.
Having been born and raised at a riverside village in eastern Bhutan, river adventure is close to Rinchen’s heart. He is a professional white-water rafter and river guide and he imparts training on rafting and kayaking from time to time. He also has in-depth knowledge on local culture, history and places. Bring any topics, he can give lengthy talks. Guests best describe him as a friendly and knowledgeable guide.
Pema was born with trekking in his blood in the isolated nomadic village of Sakteng in north east of Bhutan bordering Tibet and Tawang in India. He was trained and certified by the Tourism Council of Bhutan in 2007 and since then he has been leading groups on various treks. There are hardly any treks, which he has not conquered. Pema made history in 2011 when he led a team of Indian women headed by Ms. Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman who scaled Mount Everest, to the epic 24-day Snowman Trek in Bhutan. When not on trekking, Pema would be seen playing a traditional archery game.
Prior to becoming a tour leader, Phurba was our Finance Assistant. Due to his love for guiding, he underwent a prerequisite training to become a tour leader. Today, he enjoys his profession because he likes to meet people from all walks of life and share with them the tales of his country. Phurba loves learning new things so excuses him if he bothers you with many questions.
Yonten has an inherent potential to be a tour leader. He has sweet temperaments and gets along with people of all backgrounds. These personal traits coupled with sound knowledge on Bhutan makes him an efficient guide. If need be, he can entertain you with English songs while on tour. His friends call him “Tsampa” because of his long hair.
