Bhutan is open

Bhutan has been most successful in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. As of now, Bhutan recorded 21 deaths from COVID-19, all with pre-existing heath conditions. Bhutan has fully vaccinated 90% of eligible population with COVID-19 vaccines and people have also received the second booster dose.

After two and half years of closure due to the pandemic, Bhutan reopened its borders for tourism from 23rd September 2022.

COVID-19 Protocols

The government announces the following requirements for all incoming travelers with effect from September 23, 2022:

– There will be no COVID-19 testing and quarantine requirements for inbound travelers.

– Although the government recommends all visitors to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to help stop the spread of the disease, there are now no COVID-19 vaccination requirements for adults or children to enter Bhutan.

– All individuals (12 years and above) entering Bhutan may be subjected to random RT-PCR testing at the formal points of entry to maintain COVID-19 surveillance for new variants. No fee shall be charged for the RT-PCR testing for surveillance.

– Unvaccinated guests can enter Bhutan and there will be no quarantine period.

– There will be no COVID-19 protocols to leave Bhutan, unless required by the country the guest is travelling to. 

– Travelers to Bhutan will need travel insurance for the duration of their trip. Travel insurance can be obtained from your home country or from Bhutan before traveling.
